Dialog and Partnerships

Only by means of open, prejudice-free and respectful dialog with the relevant stakeholders in so-ciety can we, as a responsible part of this society, generate credibility and acceptance for our ap-proaches and actions and also gain valuable feedback.

Bayer CropScience cannot solve extensive social issues with its core expertise in agriculture alone. Required are joint efforts of civil society organizations, governments and other private sec-tor companies. As a responsible part of society, we make a contribution in our sphere of influence.

Open dialog and mutual understanding – essential factors for further development

Bayer CropScience perceives itself as a responsible part of society. As such, we maintain and promote dialog with our partners in society. We regard this as a fundamental precondition for be-ing granted social acceptance for our products and our conduct, the so called license to operate. Dialog also enables us to learn about the motivations of our partners in society. This provides us with meaningful suggestions for the future.

We are convinced that only in an environment in which we are accepted as a responsible partner can we enjoy long-term success.

Solving the complex issues facing society – issues which are also defined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals – will take a combination of numerous skills that no single com-pany can deliver. What is required is cooperation between all of the main stakeholders in civil so-ciety, governments and the private sector. We are effective contributors to partnerships in all ar-eas where our core expertise can be effectively applied.

The dialog with politics and civil society stakeholders is important to us. An open and fair ex-change of opinions and ideas provides us with information about the motives, perspectives and interests of our dialog partners and allows us to strive to make our viewpoints and challenges, as a private-sector enterprise, more transparent. These topics include ethical issues such as genetic engineering and child labor, for example.

We are also working together with non-governmental organizations in the context of our "Learning for Life" education initiative. For example, Bayer CropScience has joined a Public Private Partner-ship (PPP) with the International Vector Control Consortium (IVCC).
